Walk with Wisdom at Lake Katherine!

Giiwe is proud to collaborate with Rivers Collegiate to take students on an adventure that combines stunning scenery with a deep dive into Indigenous history. Walk with Wisdom at Riding Mountain National Park's Lake Katherine also known as Zhaaboomin! This informative guided tour isn't just a hike; it's a journey through time.

Unearth the Stories of the Land:

As we explore, students will unveil captivating stories passed down through generations. They'll learn about the traditional territories of Indigenous peoples, how they thrived using the land's resources, and the deep spiritual connection they held with this place.

Become a Nature Detective:

Sharpen your observation skills and transform into a nature detective! This activity encourages students to identify plants traditionally used for food and medicine by Indigenous communities. Through engaging discussions, students will discover the importance of sustainable practices and how Indigenous peoples have lived in harmony with the environment for countless generations.

More Than Just a Hike:

Walk with Wisdom goes beyond a simple hike. It's an opportunity to connect with the past, gain a deeper understanding of the present, and inspire future generations. Students will leave this with a newfound appreciation for environmental stewardship and the rich tapestry of Indigenous history woven into the very fabric of Canada.
